I have a typical relationship with makeup–wore too much eyeliner in middle school, didn’t really know what I was doing in high school so I didn’t really wear too much, mom who was low maintenance gave me makeup tips that sufficed. Then I went to college, learned how to do my own makeup with a lot of mistakes (we’ll get to that), and ended up slaying in my own way. Now, I’m a quasi-adult that actually buys my mom makeup! She likes the little sample sizes.
Makeup mistakes I’ve made, the TOP THREE.
- Super neon hella bright lipstick- I thought that I was a bad ass bitch, but really it just looked really tacky and made my lips stand out far too much from the rest of my face.
- Contour that was sloppy- My mother asked me why my face looked so dirty, and I never tried to contour again.
- Super light foundation- I used to use a shade called porcelain…PORCELAIN.
I have a confession to make. Now, as a boring, twenty one year old woman, I wear the same makeup every day.
I have not added any variation, or tried new products, or anything.
See? They’re all the same look, except I forgot to put my Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment on in the last one, and it faded in the second photo.
I do the same makeup every day (that I wear makeup), and watch an episode of The Mindy Project every morning while I do so, although it takes me much less longer to do my makeup if I don’t watch TMP.
I remember when I first started wearing makeup regularly in college, and I would change my makeup to match my outfits…those were the days! Now, it’ll be a special or rare occasion if I change my LIPSTICK. And I know there’s nothing wrong with it, and it actually makes thing simpler when it comes to getting ready, but I miss the excitement and variety that I used to have in my routine.
Which is why I’ve decided to challenge myself–to a week’s worth of changing up my makeup routine. I’ve decided that I cannot use any product twice, except for my face makeup, eyebrows, and eyeliner. I’m going to call it the Chrissey Does Fun Makeup Challenge, or the Chrissey Gets Less Boring Challenge. I still haven’t decided yet.
So, if you’re feeling like you’re in a bit of a makeup rut, or like being a little adventurous, you should try it too!
Or maybe you’re like a normal person who changes up your makeup…in that case, I challenge you to change things up and wear the same makeup for a week.
