What’s In My Makeup Bag?

I always appreciate positive commentary, and one of the things that I’ve had a lot of questions about is my makeup routine. The how, the when, the where. Okay, maybe not the where…

I will preface this post series (one on the tricks of the trade, one on the how-to) by saying that this is what works for me. I know that conventionally, eyeliner is put on after eye shadow…this is what works for me (I do everything for a reason! I know that most people like powder products. Personally for me, I don’t like how chalky and unnatural they look on me. I like creams and liquids.

I do the same makeup every day, and I change up my lip color. This might be kind of weird to some people, but that’s just how I do it! It’s simple and easy for me.

My entire routine does not take long, but I always watch an episode of The Mindy Project while I get ready. It really is a good start to my day, and I like sitting and relaxing. Some people meditate, I sit and get ready.

I use a mix of mid-range makeup products, and drugstore products. I definitely am not a die hard fan either way, because I believe there are great products at all price ranges. You just have to find what works for you! Through a lot of trial and error, I’ve figured out a routine that works perfectly for me.

What’s in my makeup bag?

FACE:

CoTZ Face Natural Skin Tone SPF 40- I don’t like foundations, but I do like a tiny bit of sheer coverage on my skin. More importantly, I always put on SPF! This (very little, barely) tinted sunscreen is absolutely perfect for that. It goes on smooth, and mattifies and smoothens my skin. It’s perfect for a very natural face look, think Milk Makeup and Glossier.

NYX Wonder™ Concealer Stick- I’ve recently started doing a little bit of contour. I like a soft, natural slightly sculpted kind of look rather than the Kardashian contour. I use the shade Light.

Benefit Cosmetics Watt’s Up! Cream-to-Powder Highlighter- This is my holy grail, OG highlighter. Each one comes with TONS of product–I swear I’ll be using this highlighter on my wedding day. It’s the perfect “effortless” highlighter, and is so easy to blend. It’s non-greasy, pigmented, and amazing.

NYC Color® Lovatics By Demi Lip and Cheek Tint- This is a dupe for Benefit’s Benetint. It is such a steal for $2.99, and the little bottle will last you forever. I bought this on a whim over the summer, and I found that my blush would always be intact even if I was sweating my butt off! It’s blendable, buildable, and really awesome. I use the shade Strawberry.

EYES:

NYX Proof It Eyeshadow Primer- This eye primer is AMAZING. Far better than any primer I have used before in my life. It makes your eye makeup fade-proof, I’ve fallen asleep accidentally and woken up with perfect eye makeup.

Marc Jacobs Beauty Highliner Gel Eye Crayon Eyeliner- Truthfully I only use this eyeliner because I got it for free in my Sephora birthday set, but it doesn’t change the fact that it’s amazing! It’s creamy, pigmented, and a really phenomenal liner.

Julep Eyeshadow 101 Eyeshadow Stick- I just posted a review about this. It’s amazing.

e.l.f. Waterproof Eyeliner Pen- The only liquid eyeliner pen I will ever buy. It’s inexpensive, pigmented, and really awesome

A  TopShop eyebrow pencil- This was the first eyebrow pencil I ever tried, and it absolutely changed my eyebrow game. I used to use eyebrow pomade and it just made my eyebrows look so unnatural and heavy.

Essence Cosmetics Make Me Brow Eyebrow Mascara- This is an awesome eyebrow gel that is an even better version of Benefit’s brow gel!

LIPS:

Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment in Coral

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Bittersweet (discontinued)

Urban Decay Revolution Lipstick in Rapture (discontinued)

Colourpop Ultra Satin Lip in Dopey

Kat Von D Everlasting Liquid Lipstick

Colourpop Matte Lippie Stix in Fighter (discontinued)
