Hey all–this post is going to be SUPREMELY long and full of pictures!
So after the Cubs mania, my roommate and I ended up staying at the apartment this weekend instead of visiting our parents like planned. Of course, we could not let the super nice weather go to waste! So, after a long week of midterms, stress, and of course, guy drama, we decided to have a fun weekend. It was one of those rare weekends where we didn’t have tons of things to do, and I was off of work.
The first thing we decided to do was to go grab brunch (#girlswhobrunch). We ended up going to one of my favorite brunch places (Davanti Enoteca), because my roommate’s favorite brunch was completely PACKED (I estimate that Cubs Mania will go away in like a week…or a year…). We each picked an entree, and then a side to share! I was definitely tempted by their Bloody Mary bar and my roommate ended up getting the fresh squeezed orange juice. Yum.
I suggested my favorite item from brunch for my roommate, the Lemon Ricotta pancakes with mixed berries. I decided to be spontaneous and try something new. I got the Truffled Egg Toast with Asparagus. It was SOOO good–the egg toast was buttery, cheesy, and crunchy yet fluffy. The soft egg yolk was decadent and it was all delicious. Brunch was absolutely incredible, and it was a definite nice change of pace.
Usually, I don’t do Saturday brunch because I work in the mornings, and usually she likes to visit her family on the weekends!
The next stop on our day of fun was to go shopping! I have a big fancy-schmancy work event on Thursday night (pictures will follow of my outfit, of course), and I wanted to get a professional, yet chic dress for the event.
The funny thing is, I actually didn’t even end up buying a dress…I ended up having the perfect one in my closet already. oops! Don’t you just love it when things like that happen? Joanna totally laughed at me, and shook her head a bit when I showed her my “back up dress,” which was ten times cuter and far superior than the ones we had seen in the stores!
I absolutely love going on boats, and I have a fond memory of going on the Navy Pier boat tour with my parents when I was a little girl. Joanna had never gone before, and since we were going all out for this Saturday, the two of us picked up tickets to go!
OH, and quick outfit details.
I wore one of my favorite olive green floral dresses from Forever 21, it is a 3/4 sleeve dress and one of the comfiest. I paired it with a denim jacket because it was a little breezy out, and sandal wedges. I carried my favorite Kate Spade.
For hair, I just brushed my hair (lol), and I’ve been doing my makeup in a new way, and I really like it! The lipstick I am wearing is ELF’s Matte Lip Color in Berry Sorbet. It is my current favorite!
We boarded the ship after waiting in line, and off we went!
The wind was absolutely INSANE (they don’t call it The Windy City for nothing), but the view was absolutely beautiful. There’s just something about being on a boat and sailing through the softly roaring water that just makes it such an unforgettable experience. It was definitely different seeing the usual sights of Chicago from a unique perspective–it’s not everyday you can see the beautiful skyline from the lake, and see all the hustle and bustle.
Also, these pictures might be the only time you see me smiling with my teeth, or looking this flustered and candid, hahaha.
After our boat tour, we decided to go to Trader Joe’s to grab something to make for dinner…which totally didn’t end up happening.
Instead, the two of us decided to head to my favorite restaurant* (well, my favorite restaurant for date nights or nice dinners…), Tavern at the Park. One of the things that makes eating there SO awesome is sitting on the rooftop. So, when the hostess said that there would be a wait, we definitely had no problem with that! We decided to grab a drink to sip on as we waited.
Psst–can you BELIEVE that The Cloudgate is $221?! That’s crazy!
It actually comes with a little pendant from Tiffany’s that’s in the shape of a little bean. How cute!
I imagine that a guy would buy this for me, in my romantic comedy. Preferably Kris Bryant, Childish Gambino, or Jack Falahee…
Or you know, that I would be so successful that I would buy myself one!
Because we weren’t going to drop over two hundred dollars for a drink, she got the Use Your Infusion II, and I got the Dirty Double Crosser.
See? What did I tell ya about the view? AMAZING.
I think that Tavern is such a great place to go, whether you’re having dinner with someone special or having a girl’s night with your friends! It’s definitely fun, chill, and it has the absolute perfect vibe…and AMAZING food.
The music they play is also always on point, as well.
Me and my Dirty Double Crosser! (NOTE- this drink uses raw egg whites, so you might want to be careful if you test it out!)
And my Otterbox phone case…boo.
For dinner, I got the..
Sustainably harvested Scottish salmon over wasabi mashed potatoes with tomato jus & crispy leeks.

Although I am vegetarian most of the time, occasionally when I go out to eat I’ll have seafood (typically only if I can’t find something else I want to eat). This entire dish was absolutely DELICIOUS. The wasabi mashed potatoes gave the perfect little kick of spice to the salmon, and they were light and creamy. The salmon was seasoned perfectly, and was just so flavorful and fresh. And the sauce? YUM.
My roommate had the chopped steak burger and calamari, and after going to Tavern for the first time, she is in LOVE.
For dessert, we did not end up ordering anything (we were stuffed!), but once we got home and changed into comfy clothes, we both ended up having cupcakes!
