My Grandparents’ 50th Anniversary (Outfit, Story, and Cake!)

It was my grandparents’ fiftieth wedding anniversary, and I went to the suburbs to attend this significant milestone! My father had told me before that I could wear whatever I’d like, but he not-so-casually inserted the fact that my little brother, Nugget would be wearing a suit.

I got the memo, dad–dress nice. I’ve worn this dress only once before, to a work event, but I still adore it. It’s professional, chic, and feminine all at the same time. I paired it with a festive orange cardigan to match my mother, and my favorite suede wedges.

I definitely should have painted my nails, but for this look it was all about the pearls! The pearl ring, the bracelet… the earrings and necklace.

I did my usual makeup look (ps, for those of you that are wondering the Tom Ford lipstick shade I am always wearing is Richard. I absolutely love it… and I’m always looking for dupes! If you know of one, help a girl out!), and lightly curled my hair.

Oh… and the cake for this event!

I have to overcompensate because I accidentally deleted all my Yums of the Weeks…. (lots of brunch, y’all!)

This cake was delicious. All the fruit on top (and on the inside!) was soooo fresh and crisp! The top of the cake was accented with melon balls, strawberries, and kiwis, while there was watermelon and pineapple on the inside. The whipped cream was fresh and lightly sweet, and the actual cake itself was so light and airy! It was absolutely DELICIOUS.

Ugh, I wish I took some home. So good.

I feel like this post is a little short, so I’m gonna tell y’all a story.

I bought those suede wedges for my first “big girl” job, because of the fact that I walk weirdly in heels and I’m so clumsy sometimes. One night, about a year ago, I was going to a work event (the whole story will be revealed soon enough), and my date picked me up at my apartment. He took one look at my suede wedges, and said, “you’re going to wear those?” And he immediately raised his eyebrows.

“Um, yes, I love these wedges,” I commented. What the hell was his problem?

He looked at me, very seriously, and said, “I wish you had told me that you were going to wear those. I would have taken you to J.Crew or Aldo to buy some real high heels.

I kid you not, he dissed my suede wedges.

And wedges are ultra comfy and the less murdery version of high heels.

I mean…. it says a lot that I’m still wearing these wedges and the guy isn’t around, right? 😉

Just kidding!

Happy anniversary to my grandparents, I love each and every one of you!

What’s your favorite kind of cake?

Damn, I want some more of that anniversary cake!

  1. Awww happy anniversary to them :)) & where did you get your dress? I am always looking for professional clothes & it’s hard to find them that fit well — but yours seems to fit you like a glove! So pretty! I have a black one that I can wear for professional events, but I want more colors lol. Oh also my fav cake was a wedding cake — fresh strawberry :))

    1. Thank you so much, Jess! My aunt owns a boutique so she gets a lot of samples and whatnot, and she gave me my dress to test it out. It doesn’t have an official tag on it, so I don’t really know! Strawberry cake sounds delicious.
