I found myself downloading the CW app to watch Riverdale because everyone had compared it to my favorite show as a teenager. The parallels were undeniable. Veronica is Blair, Archie is Chuck, Serena is Betty… and it’s also on the same network as Gossip Girl.
Riverdale was presented as an homage to the classic Archie comics, but with a twist. I’ve read the modern ones, and am familiar with 2019’s Veronica, as well as the vintage.
After watching the show, I speculated that they filmed Riverdale in the town in Gossip Girl where Juliet was a townie, in the episode where Serena was in rehab and we discovered she was a thirsty teenage girl for her teacher Ben. Riverdale was nice, but we’ll see if I keep watching. Veronica was a little too nice for me, and Betty was a little too annoying for my taste. But I definitely like the too sexy Archie… he can stay.
I think I’ll give it a few watches before I make my final judgment, as that was only the pilot. The mystery is just starting to unfold, after all. It’s Twin Peaks meets One Tree Hill, although I will admit that whoever is making the soundtrack for this show must be the same person making the Gossip Girl soundtracks, because both are phenomenal. I loved the music on Gossip Girl, and I love the music on Riverdale.
Anyways, as I watched I became interested in Veronica’s makeup look. It seemed like they went the more natural direction with her makeup, although not as much as Betty. I did spot Betty using a Fresh Sugar Lip Treatment, which lowkey made me roll my eyes because I don’t think someone as unlikeable as her should experience the gloriousness of Fresh. Just kidding. Kind of.
So, I decided to recreate her makeup look… with just four products.
- Sephora foundation (I’m sampling it!)
- L’Oréal Brow Stylist
- Physicians Formula Butter Bronzer
- Colourpop Lippie Stix in Konichiwa(I mixed in a teensy bit of Lolita to customize my shade since I’m on vacation and I didn’t have my whole bag!)
(I’ll update the links later!)
I don’t think I’d be able to live in Riverdale since I don’t teenage smolder very well!
Overall, the look is very natural and simple, and one that I would do again to wear normally! But maybe with the eyebrows toned down a bit… and with tinted moisturizer.
I first applied foundation all over my face. Riverdale’s resident ice queen has a flawless complexion, so I used one of my foundation samples instead of my usual tinted moisturizer.
I then applied Bronzer to my crease and blended it out until it appeared like a matte eyeshadow look. I made sure it looked like natural eye makeup, but with definition in the crease! I wanted to double up on my use for the Bronzer since I am trying to do a four makeup item tutorial, after all!
I then applied the brow pencil very lightly on my lashline, as a natural eyeliner kind of look. Queen V doesn’t have a cat eye (I know… disappointing! Although I might do a 4 item tutorial inspired by the comic book version!) but more so natural eyeliner. This just gives my eyes a little more definition.
I then brushed, and filled in my eyebrows. Like, really filled them in. I think it looks less dramatic in photos, but in person, whoa.
I applied Bronzer to lightly contour my cheeks!
I used a teensy bit of my lipstick as a cream blush, as you can see in her makeup there’s just super light blush.
I then applied lipstick!
And that was it!
I didn’t bring any shift dresses on my trip and I don’t wear monochromatic pieces too often… so I put on a cardigan for the pictures! I’m still on vacation in sunny Dallas, remember?
All in all, I think that this is a super pretty natural looking makeup look! It was super fast to do, and speedy! I think I’ll be adapting it as a fast makeup routine, but I’ll filling in my brows less for daily wear!
Have you guys watched Riverdale? What do you think?
