So, the other day I told you guys that I was going to do my first Q&A post! I wrote a blog post asking you guys what questions you wanted to be answered and a lot of you DM’d me some questions! From boys to breakfast, you guys covered it all. But before we get into that, I wanted to shamelessly plug the last blog post that I wrote.
I wrote a blog post about my ultimate career goals and explained a lot of what’s going on with my life! If you haven’t read it yet, you totally should (here!). Anyways, without further ado… my Q&A!
What is your favorite drugstore makeup brand?
My favorite drugstore makeup brand is L’Oreal. I feel like they have a wide range of products that are good and high-quality. A lot of drugstore brands only excel in certain areas and I feel like L’Oreal is one of those few brands that is phenomenal across the board. Right off the top of my head, I can say that their cushion foundation is my favorite, I love their lineur intense (it was the first eyeliner I ever used perfectly!), their infallible lip paints, brow stylist. They have a lot of good products! My second favorite would probably be NYX.
My least favorites are Covergirl and Maybelline.
What do you typically eat for breakfast?
I am currently obsessed with parfaits. I use plain Greek yogurt with a bit of sugar, add berries and granola and a swirl of raw honey!
What is your favorite mascara?
I love Lush’s Eyes Right Mascara as it’s the only mascara that doesn’t irritate my eyes! I also love Benefit’s Rollerlash mascara. I’ve tried a lot of mascaras and those two are by far the best! For a drugstore alternative, Essence Cosmetics makes a princess one that’s super nice.
As a newer blogger, what is, in your experience, the best way to attract to followers?
I always forget that I’m a newer blogger. I started my blog in August so it’s only been….seven months? Whoa.
Okay, I’m going, to be honest with you guys. I don’t try to attract new followers…I never have, and I don’t think I will. I don’t want you guys to think that means I don’t care about my followers because I whole-heartedly do. I just don’t try so hard to get them. I’ve discussed my best blogging advice (here), but basically it is this: be yourself and be genuine. If you’re true to yourself, write often, and interact with your readers, then everything will follow suit.
People always ask me how I grow my blog and what I do, and the truth is I’m kind of just doing it as I go. And from my blog stats, it’s been working out for me! I remember when my blog first started getting bigger there was this blogger who non-stop messaged me and constantly asked me for every little detail on what I did. I kept telling them that I was myself and they constantly kept agonizing over little details and my posts. Agonizing over things isn’t going to make blogging fun for you, or enjoyable!
But for practical advice: I would say to promote your blog posts on social media, interact with readers and respond to comments, be yourself, and use relevant tags. Produce good content, and lastly–don’t be afraid to connect with other bloggers in your community. Just because you and a blogger don’t blog about the same topic doesn’t mean you can’t be friends! Jess is a PT/fitness blogger and she’s one of my best blogging friends! You’d be surprised at what you can learn from other bloggers!
What tips do you have for Twitter?
I wrote a whole post about that already (here). My number one Twitter advice (and everything advice, it seems) is to be yourself. A lot of people are intimidated by Twitter–don’t be! It’s a fun, casual social media site. I love using it because I’m able to let my readers see a more relaxed and personal side of me. And on the flip side, I’m able to see the more relaxed and chill side of other bloggers that I follow!
Also on Twitter, find a hashtag or group that resonates with you and your content! I love following #girlmedtwitter because so many of the tweets and accounts are people that I can relate to, as an aspiring medical lab scientist. Also, don’t be afraid to tweet people! I’ve met tons of phenomenal people that I have networked and connected with!
Do you think you’ll be in a relationship anytime soon?
Lol, no. I have a lot of things I want to accomplish, education and career-wise. There’s so much that I want to do and I’m still incredibly young (I’m only twenty-one!). A relationship just isn’t part of that plan right now, and I don’t see myself getting married until I’m 27/27.
Why… do you guys want some eye candy on the blog? Just kidding!
Why don’t you like romance?
I feel like this is a common misconception people make about me. It;s not that I hate romance… I just don’t like conventional mushy gushy stuff. Overly excessive extravagant stuff. I think it seems disingenuous sometimes and I’m more chill and laid back. The best date I’ve ever been on was super low key and relaxed. I don’t like good morning texts and I don’t like being suffocated. This doesn’t mean that I don’t like romance or relationships, I just don’t like romantic things that seem excessive! Does this make sense?
But you know, I’m human. And sometimes, once in a while, I do like cute things.
Would you rather have a great career but be single forever or have a bad career but have a partner?
I’m going to get stoned for saying this, but I would rather have the great career and be single forever. I think there are two types of people, there’s the Robin Scherbatskys and the Ted Mosbys (not that he had a bad career…not even remotely!). I’m a Robin Scherbatsky.
I think people equate loneliness to singledom, and that is not the case. Even if I had no partner, I would still have my friends, my family, my loved ones. And I would still have that pug that I want to adopt someday.
Maybe someday, I’ll answer differently. But today, this is my answer. I know a lot of people would choose something different, but right now my career matters.
Can you interview your ex-boyfriend?
I really love you guys, so I sent him the questions yesterday. It should be up next week. I still can’t believe Beny agreed to this!
How would you handle dating and blogging?
You mean like, telling my significant other that I blog?
I’ve only dated one guy since starting this blog and he knew it existed but told me he wasn’t going to read it. He said, “I’m scared, it’s called The Unabridged Sass. Enough said.” But to be honest, I think he lowkey read it.
I don’t think I would tell a potential boyfriend that I blogged unless we were seriously dating and committed. The blog is a part of me and I think in an ideal world my boyfriend would even take pictures of me every once in a while! I wouldn’t expect him to read my blog to keep up with it, but taking pictures every once in a while? Sure!
Have any of the guys you’ve blogged about read your blog?
Like the terrible (but funny) dates I’ve been on? One of my good friend’s best friends actually is dating one of the guys I blogged about. When they first started dating, she actually confronted him because she had read the blog post I had written and was appalled. He claimed that he had changed (even though they dated like a month after I blogged about that date), and they’ve been together since! I’m happy that they’ve found each other, and if he’s changed then good for him!
The guy that followed me twenty blocks also told me that one of the girls in his class was reading my blog (!!!!!!), and told me he would sue. To be honest, I was just surprised that my blog had that big of a reach!
How are you so honest on your blog? Are you embarrassed about sharing things with people on the internet?
I’m glad that you guys think I’m honest and genuine! And to answer your question, no. I think it is far easier to be afraid of being judged by people you know in your daily life than others on the internet. However, I’ve learned to love and accept myself, and who I am. I’ve learned to not be embarassed of myself, and also to just be honest! I guess I just try to keep it real!
What ethnicity are you?
People always ask me this! In my everyday life, and on the blog. A lot of people tell me that I’m ethnically ambiguous or ethnically neutral. They ask me if I am mixed or if I am a mutt. Sometimes, I wonder if it truly matters as much as people make it to!
I’m one hundred percent Vietnamese, down the line. I might not look like it, but I am!
What are you looking for in the ideal boyfriend? You seem picky.
I had to include the whole statement. Dayum. I’m not picky–I just think that I have standards!
I could write a whole post on this, actually. I think I’ve scattered the answers to this question on my blog in various posts.
I want someone who is passionate, dedicated, ambitious and motivated in his career. An individual who is driven. I want a guy who is caring, considerate, and thoughtful. A supportive partner who supports me emotionally. The kind of guy who would be willing to debate with me about various things, and talk with me about anything and everything. Someone who is a shoulder to lean on, and would accompany me on various adventures. That’s all I can think of, right now.
What is your least favorite makeup product that you’ve tried?
The ELF cosmetics eyebrow pencil/highlight pencil duo, Wet N Wild’s old liquid lipstick (the megalast), ELF Cosmetics liquid eyeliner…I used this when I first started dating my ex and I remember it seeped and BLED into my eye that he went and got a q-tip and like scooped it out of my eye. It was BAD.
If you could eat ONE thing the rest of your life what would it be (health aside)?
Portillo’s cheese fries. They are my favorite thing, ever. Pasta would be my second choice.
If you guys have any other questions, leave them in the comments below! What did you guys think of the Q&A? Would you want me to do another one soon? What questions do y’all have?
