The Only Foundation I Don’t Hate (But LOVE)

I honestly think I have stumbled upon the best foundation ever. I have scientifically determined this because I hate foundations and this is the only one that I have found myself loving. And trust me, I am in love.

Here are some things I hate about foundation:

  • Looks heavy, cakey, and unnatural.
  • Feels heavy on my face.
  • Rubs off on everything.
  • Does not last long.
  • Breaks me out.
  • My face gets gross and oily super fast.
  • My face gets shiny.
  • Hard to blend.
  • Makes my face photograph weird.
  • ETC

I found that using powder over my moisturizer worked best for me when it came to face products.

I mean, I’m someone that doesn’t even like using a primer! I had come to terms with my face makeup laziness and was in no mood to change ways. I had tried many, many foundations the past (which are good in their own way) but never found one that I’ve loved. I really liked the Loreal Cushion makeup but wasn’t absolutely obsessed. I think by now you guys have a clear indication of when I really like a product versus when I’m obsessed.

And I’m not going to lie…I’m super picky. I’ve tried pretty much all the cult favorites: the shitty Maybelline Fit Me Matte (makes me oily), the Makeup Forever one everyone and their momma use (it breaks me out!), the Kevyn Aucoin SUPER EXPENSIVE face stuff (broke me out a LOT)….I have tried a lot of foundations through samples and whatnot. Oh, and I have definitely tried the crappy Kat Von D one that feels like old glue on your face.

What started out as an innocuous trip shopping led to a completely life-changing discovery. I went to Belk with my aunts and grandmother over the weekend and casually saw that the Estee Lauder counter was offering a free ten-day sample of their foundation! My aunt urged me to give it a try, and I found myself in the seat for once, getting my makeup done and talking with the super informed makeup artist! She was incredibly knowledgeable, kind, and so helpful!

And once she put foundation on half my face, my aunts looked at me, pointing at my face and snapping photos.

“This side is pretty and this side isn’t,” one commented, as I reached for the mirror. Surely, a foundation wouldn’t make that much of a difference…right?

My jaw dropped to the floor in shock. Although my face felt completely comfortable and like there was nothing on it…I definitely had foundation on, and it definitely made a difference. This foundation was amazing and I looked and felt like a whole new Chrissey. I rapid-fire shot questions all about the Double Wear Stay-in-Place Makeupand quickly learned that although it was a medium to high coverage foundation it still left my skin with the natural finish that I love….it just made me look a billion times better.

I immediately fell in love but decided to wait before I completely made my judgment. Armed with my ten day supply (by the way, I wear 2C1, Pure Beige!), which I think will last me much longer because you only need a smidge, I went about my day waiting for it to let me down. And in the scorching hot Texas weather, it did not. My makeup didn’t fade or melt off my face.

The crazy thing is, at the end of the day (yes…that’s when that selfie was taken!!!) I wasn’t shiny or oily at all and my makeup looked as if I had just applied it. It looked absolutely gorgeous and didn’t feel cakey or heavy at all! I looked like a natural, Instagram-worthy version of myself and was amazed at the longevity of the foundation, especially since she didn’t use a primer or set it with powder.

It definitely gives a beautiful satin matte finish too, which I love!

I decided to hold my judgment until I gave it a try on my own.

I first start with sunscreen, and then moisturizer. I do not use primer and find that my foundation applies like a dream once my skin is soft and hydrated. I don’t think it will glide as easily on dry skin. I recommend moisturizing beforehand and so did the Estee Lauder lady that helped me!

I only use a little bit at a time and buff it into my skin using my Urban Decay Optical Blurring Brush (the discontinued one!). This foundation is tremendously pigmented and potent! I find that I only need a little bit, and just blend it out accordingly. I work in light layers and apply a little more to areas that need it. I find that it’s incredibly buildable and so easy to blend. Although it’s a medium to high coverage foundation it isn’t one that feels extremely heavy and it doesn’t look cakey.

I did not use a filter or anything as you guys know I never do and I’m lowkey lazy when it comes to blog photography… (Also, to be honest, I’m in my pajamas in those selfies. Whoops).

The foundation has a gorgeous satin matte finish and once set it doesn’t budge, transfer or rub off on anything. I wore it without a primer or setting powder and it once again, lasted all day and didn’t move an inch! My face didn’t get oily (even though I was outside and active), nor did it get shiny. My makeup didn’t fade at all and looked fresh at the end of the day.

And it doesn’t break out my skin, which is super sensitive! I find that as someone with oily skin who absolutely hates other foundations because they’re so heavy and slippery, that this is literally the foundation of my dreams! I honestly don’t have any complaints besides the fact that it doesn’t have a pump but I love it so much that I’m willing to forget about it.

Seriously, my skin is oily as those cheese fries I love and this foundation is sent from God. It’s a pricey foundation, but I’m hoping that my ten day supply will last me quite some time so I can snag it during a sale or a promotion! I definitely love this foundation and am incredibly surprised and impressed at how phenomenal it is. I’m not one to love “cult favorites,” but this is a product that is worth the hype! I love how confident I feel wearing it, and also the added bonus that it looks like my face has a permanent filter over it whenever I wear it. It’s that good.

It is by far, the best foundation I have ever tried and my holy grail favorite. I’ve been wearing it consistently and have found myself falling more and more in love every time that I wear it! Although pricey, it’s worth it. Especially if you can snag it during a sale or with a promo!

“Learn to enjoy every minute of your life. Be happy now. Don’t wait for something outside of yourself to make you happy in the future. Think how really precious is the time you have to spend, whether it’s at work or with your family. Every minute should be enjoyed and savored.”

  1. I’m so happy you finally found a foundation that you’re in love with! You know we’ve talked Bare Minerals on twitter before and I’m still in love but I’m highly considering splurging on one of the Tarte foundations so I can try them.

    1. My friend loves their powder foundation and I’ve tried a sample of their liquid and it’s nice, just a little heavy for my taste + I get oily! Definitely tell me how it goes if you try one out!

  2. That foundation looks so good and natural on your face (it looks like you have nothing on, but in a good way)! Finding a foundation that’s actually a winner is so hard, so I’m really glad you’ve found one that works for you!

    1. Thank you so much Liv!!! I really love it and I’m not one to like foundations! I’m just trying to make my little bottle last until the Nordstrom sale so I can use my $10 off hahahaha

  3. It sounds like you’ve truly found a foundation unicorn! I hate the shininess you get from foundation after a few hours too, so I’ll check out what Estes Lauder offers in the US!

PS: I looiiive that green Kate Spade!
