Since I feel like I’ve been slacking on the “life” part of lifestyle, I decided to try a new kind of post where I share what I’ve been wearing, eating and up to! What better weekend to recap than Memorial Day Weekend?
So, let get started!
I know that Thursday doesn’t really count as the weekend but I told you all last week that I was going to share my outfit details from the event I had last week! My cousin William (who is in my snaps!) was officially “pinned” to be treasurer of his high school’s Key Club and we all headed to Town Hall for the ceremony!
I wore an olive green shirt dress with my favorite nude t-strap pumps. I paired it with my usual Kate Spade bag for a fun pop of color and wore my makeup and hair like I usually do! My lipstick is Revlon Colorstay Overtime in Infinite Raspberry. Overall, I think that it’s a chic but lowkey refined look. I’ve been loving shirtdresses recently and this olive one is so comfy!
I didn’t really do anything super important!
On Saturday, I spent the morning running errands and spending some time with family. For dinner, I went to grab sushi at my favorite sushi restaurant in the Dallas-Fort Worth area! I’ve been here before with Will but we decided to try some new foods!
Shrimp tempura, which is always a classic appetizer to start off with!
This is their OMG roll and their cowboy roll! Both were absolutely delicious but in different ways. The OMG roll was exactly that- oh my gosh delicious. It had shrimp tempura, cream cheese on the inside and crab with spicy mayo, eel sauce, and deliciousness on top! There were some crunchy crispy noodles on the side to pair with the roll. The Cowboy roll was lighter
The Cowboy roll was lighter but super unique. It had filet steak on the inside (something that I’ve never had before in a sushi roll!), avocado, special sauce, lettuce, and asparagus too! It was such a phenomenal flavor combination and definitely fresh.
The Sashimi sampler is always incredibly delicious too! My father is coming to visit in a few weeks and I know he’d absolutely love this!
Spicy chicken with rice. This is a super flavorful dish and one of my favorites that they have! I like how they have a nice array for non-sushi lovers too!
The veggies on the side, since Will doesn’t eat them.
I just wanted to say that I painted this!! I was a little nervous and was worried that I was going to ruin a perfectly good canvas…but I did it! I don’t have tons of experience when it comes to painting but this turned out beautiful and I’m honestly a little proud that I made it! This painting is currently hanging next to my vanity and definitely makes me happy when I see it in the morning.
For Memorial Day, the family went to my Aunt Kim’s house for one of our favorite family meals! We decided to have Vietnamese food, as we do for most family occasions.
I finally busted out the Fresh Coral Lip Treatment, which is my all-time favorite for summer! That’s when I know that summer has started and that it’s time for sun, fun, and bright florals!
I wore one of my favorite floral rompers (from Forever 21) paired with my red Nautica wedge sandals. I love rompers for summer because they’re so fun and breezy. They’re my go-to for warmer weather and I can’t wait to bust them out! This floral one has been my favorite in recent years as I get older (as in, not eighteen years old anymore) because it has sleeves and looks a little more refined than my other rompers.
My hair is down, like usual. I have been using Biosilk Silk Therapy in my hair and I LOVE how it keeps my hair smooth and nourished, and makes it sleek and shiny. My has has never looked this good!
So, what we eat instead of BBQ as a family is this dish where we get a large griddle, make sure it’s hot, melt butter across the surface, and then cook our shrimp/thinly sliced beef on the griddle. My family eats grilled onions too, but you all know I hate them.
My family either eats the meats dipped with sauces and the noodles on their own, or they make little spring rolls. I do neither and I make little lettuce wraps. It’s a perfect meal for sharing and conversation….and to pair with beer. My Aunt Kim always buys the best beer too!
So, after eating the bbq (kind of?), my Aunt and I hurried off to Kroger (I still think Mariano’s is better) to grab some dessert. We both wanted key lime pie…but all of them needed to be thawed and the pre-made ones were bought clean by everyone for Memorial Day.
Instead, we picked up ice cream! This ice cream by Tillamook is SO good. I have never had any ice cream from this brand and was so surprised by how delicious and creamy it was! The caramel and hazelnuts made for an amazing flavor combination!
All in all, this was a weekend packed with fun times, great food and even better company! It’s so nice to spend time with family and to have a little break from stressing about grad school and life. And of course, it’s always important to honor those who passed in service.
“These fallen heroes represent the character of a nation who has a long history of patriotism and honor – and a nation who has fought many battles to keep our country free from threats of terror.”
-Michael N. Castle
What have you all been up to recently? What did you do this weekend and how was your Memorial Day weekend? I hope you all had a phenomenal weekend!
