Things I Do, When I Feel Defeated

One thing I’ve quickly realized is that we are all human, and part of life is keeping it together when you’re at your lowest point and being humble when you’re at your highest. Everyone encounters defeat at some point in their life.

There are times when I feel defeated or down, and even though I’ve always managed to learn from the experience and moved on forward, sometimes you just need to sulk for a little bit. Sometimes, you just need a little bit of comfort.

So, this is what I do during those times.

You don’t have to bring politics into this, but when you lose a battle that you think you’re going to ultimately win, it’s an upsetting feeling. It’s horrible when you’re faced with a defeat you never saw coming, for something that you worked so incredibly hard for. Hillary Clinton handles this defeat so incredibly gracefully and her words inspire and motivate me to be hopeful for the future.

Read excerpts from a beloved book.

I read vignettes from Mindy Kaling’s book, Why Not Me? It’s a light, fluffy but insightful read. I’ve read her pieces on heartbreak when I’ve been completely devastated over a boy, and I’ve read her pieces on her career when I’ve felt at my wit’s end. It never fails to make me smile when I’m going through a rough time.

Bob’s Burgers is my feel-good show. It makes me smile and makes me laugh, especially when I’m feeling down! The humor is just so charming and endearing that it is the perfect show to watch when you need a pick me up!

The random tweets that go viral make me laugh, and there’s always something new every time!

Be grateful.

I sit and think about what I have to be grateful and thankful for. It quickly shifts my mood from bummed to gracious, and reminds me of the important things when I feel lost.

Everyone feels defeated from time to time–things aren’t always sunshine and rainbows! But with the right motivation, a little laughter and smiling, you’ll quickly be moving on forward in no time!
